QUALIFICATIONS:

TERM IN OFFICE:  10 Years (Illinois Constitution, Article VI, Section 10)


TERM BEGINS:  December 7, 2022 (10 ILCS 5/1A-19(c))

 

SALARY:  $225,900 per year (Illinois Courts)


FILING PERIODS:

  • Established Party:
    • Not more than 113 nor less than 106 days prior to the General Primary (10 ILCS 5/7-12)
    • November 25 – December 2, 2019 (for the 2020 election)
  • Independent and New Party:
    • Not more than 141 nor less than 134 days prior to the General Election (10 ILCS 5/10-6)
    • July 13 – July 20, 2020 (for the 2020 election)
  • All candidates will file with the Illinois State Board of Elections, 2329 S. MacArthur Blvd., Springfield, IL 62704-4503, either by mail or in person.

SIGNATURE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Established Party:  At least 0.4% (0.004) of the number of votes cast in that district for the candidate for their political party for the office of Governor at the last General Election at which a Governor was elected, but in no event less than 500 signatures. [(10 ILCS 5/7-10(h)]
  • Independent Party:  5% - 8% (or 50 more than the minimum, whichever is greater) of the total number of persons who voted at the last General Election within the district in which such district voted as a unit for the election of officers to serve its respective territorial area, except that where 5% is greater than 25,000, the minimum number of signatures required is 25,000. (10 ILCS 5/10-3)
  • New Party:  At least 5% of the total number of persons who voted at the last General Election within the district in which such district voted as a unit for the election of officers to serve its respective territorial area, except that where 5% is greater than 25,000, the minimum number of signatures required is 25,000. There is no maximum signature requirement. (10 ILCS 5/10-2)
